Dear Families,

We are writing to inform you of an item that will appear on the Monday, April 27, 2026, SBISD Board of Trustees Regular Board Meeting agenda titled, “Discussion of Northbrook Middle School Closure and Related Boundary Adjustments for the 2026-27 School Year.”

Under this agenda item, SBISD administration will present a proposal to close Northbrook Middle School (NMS) beginning with the 2026-2027 school year. By 6 p.m. on Friday, April 24, you will be able to view the agenda item and back up information at this link.

Under the proposal, based on family address, students would be rezoned to either Spring Oaks Middle School (SOMS), Spring Woods Middle School (SWMS) or Landrum Middle School (LMS). In addition, a portion of the Spring Woods Middle School attendance zone would be modified with some addresses rezoned to Spring Oaks Middle School.

The proposal is based on the increased challenge to efficiently and effectively continue operating such a small comprehensive middle school while maintaining the level of programming, services, and supports our community expects and our students deserve. As the district has monitored enrollment systemwide this year, NMS enrollment has continued to decline. NMS enrollment in early April was 452 students.

No vote will be taken by the Board of Trustees at the April 27 Board Regular Meeting as part of this discussion item.

Based on feedback resulting from this discussion, a vote to consider the closure of Northbrook Middle School could occur at the Board of Trustees’ May 11 Workshop Meeting. Should Trustees vote to close NMS and rezone a portion of SWMS, parents would be informed soon thereafter of their child’s new school for the upcoming school year. Community meeting dates would also be announced.

We thank you for your understanding.
